Pool busier than expected; Town takes over operation of Nutrien community hall

As the town of Rocanville kicked off the new year with their first regular council meeting on Wednesday, it was reported that the newly refurbished Universe Satellite Aquatic Centre has been extremely busy. The aquatic centre, the area’s only large indoor pool, opened its doors right before Christmas.
In her report to council, Rec Director Andrea Logan said the pool has been extremely popular for private rentals and birthday parties, with one day in December seeing three private rentals that day in between scheduled swimming events. She said the pool is seeing lots of people from surrounding communities such as Moosomin and Rocanville.
Right now plans are being made for swimming lessons at the pool, and other than some excess frost on the doors, there have been no real issues with the new building.
Town takes over operation of hall
As of January 1, 2026, the town of Rocanville has taken over operation of the Nutrien Rocanville Hall.
While the town has always been the owner of the hall, since the day it was built, the hall has been run by a board.
Town Administrator Tanya Strandlund says the decision was made to have the town take over operations, with hall bookings going through the rec office moving forward. Other than that, she said people will not see any changes.
She said many of the board members had given many years of volunteer time running the hall and fundraising for the building after it was built, and it was determined the town could take over operation and the board would no longer be needed.
Board of revision appointed
At their meeting on Wednesday, council appointed Western Municipal Consulting as the town’s board of revision for 2026.
Outdoor rink looking good
It was noted at the meeting that the town’s outdoor rink is looking good and there have been lots of kids enjoying it this year.
Options for wifi in all town facilities
The town will be looking at options for wifi in all of the town facilities so that people who rent the facilities have internet access.
